The human eye is susceptible to the influence of its surroundings when it makes a comparative assessment of color. For example, brown in the grid below. Colors surrounded by different colors will render different brown colors.

A. Surround a colour with a more saturated colour and it will appear less saturated.

B. Surround a colour with a less saturated colour and it will appear more saturated.
